Mosquitoes bite, such the blood out of you, but really do not harm you, until you get malaria, then watch out!

Supremely casual she lit a cigarette, put it in her mouth, talking around it, the music inside the bar is real loud, you can hardly hear yourself talking.

"What is it you're thinking?" she asked me.

"Nothing," I said.

"Ok," she says with a smirk, looks through the doorway into the nightclub from the hallway.

The girl next me, sees her girlfriend now, whom was at another club with her, she has arrived, and to her she says "You came back all this way back from 'Barney's?"

"Not enough guys there," she tells the girl I'm talking to, a lovely dark eyed tanned girl with blond hair.

"You were not there very long," she replies. (Her face averted from mine, she's looking at the tall blond haired guy doing his thing with two girls on the dance floor. (Her girlfriend peremptory yet quiet.)

She now has a cigarette between her lips, the cigarette and her head bobbing with the music that is seeping out into the hallway. I tell myself, chasing her, is like her chasing that blond haired guy, whom is slain to the lusts of his accomplishments in the bullring there. She is insanely immersed in grief over this guy, he is her quest for the evening, her challenge, so I tell myself, and so it look to me.

I sense she likes my company, and I am comfortable to be with, so I've been told, but when the it comes down to the end of the night, she'll be with him, if she has to hogtie him, or strip for him in front of everyone. And I thin she'll do it. I saw that once happen in Germany. When a gal gets a fixation on a man, it doesn't matter if he is surrounded by a hundred naked men, she will pick that one out every time, until the challenge is over, then, put him out to roost in some empty field in the cold.

"Thanks," she told me for lighting her cigarette, "Where you from," she asked, and I replied, "I'm on leave from Vietnam, the war...."

"Oh, yes," she comments, "we have some of our boys over there also."

"So you've evidently been following this guy all night, is that correct?"

"Yes, from one bar to the next, and I'll end up with him one way or the other." (She now puffs rapidly at the cigarette, staring into the crowed dance floor.)

In life I would find out, women like her had the determination, but not much sense, and in the long run, well, to be honest, they were not looking for anything for the long run, it was now or never. It didn't matter what I knew, or what might have happened between us, because she didn't want it, all she needed was an affidavit for him to be hers for the evening. So I was wasting my time. But everyone likes to keep a second, in place, they look good to others to have men standing around you with their tongues out, and I simply said, "It's too late," and started to walk away, my back to her, actually, it was an insult to her, and she knew it, for I did not look back. She was enjoying what I called Dead Reality, the best of all reason to make love, no commitment.

"That's right!" I told myself, listen to the voice inside of you; it will tell you when to avoid the execution forth coming.

I did meet another girl that night, I got drunker than a skunk, and when she woke me up in the morning, she wanted me to take her to the park, and we did, and I then left her alone. She came to my hotel room a few days later, asked me why I did not call her. And I was honest, I said I had only a week in Sydney, and I wanted to do all I could, and I was then heading back to Vietnam, and who knows. And she understood.

Dawnbreaker

Dawnbreaker is the debut solo album from former Chesterfield's frontman, vocalist and guitarist, Scott Sharrard. Imagine the soulful, funky rock of Prince and Lenny Kravitz combined with the confessional ballads of Coldplay or Zero 7 and fused with the virtuostic guitar styles of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton... now you might start to understand the sonic landscape that is the music of Scott Sharrard. Diverse influences abound in Scott's musical palate and the resulting fusion becomes the kind of sophisticated pop music that we have not heard in generations. He is already a renowned songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and producer and Dawnbreaker also features his talents as a drummer, bassist, keyboardist and arranger. Scott Sharrards music was originally introduced to the world through his work as lead guitarist and vocalist of the New York City band, The Chesterfields. The band independently produced and released two albums (2001's Henry Street Soul and 2003's The Chesterfields-EP) to wide critical acclaim. The band received strong college radio airplay and performed and toured at a wide array of East Coast and Midwest clubs, theaters, and festivals. They also opened shows for such artists as Dr. John and Midnight Oil and received critical praise from Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), Billboard Magazine, and Ahmet Ertegun. During this time, Scott built a solid reputation as a freelance guitarist, vocalist, producer, and composer; working with a variety of artists such as: P. Diddy, Marshall Crenshaw, Cornelius Bumpus, LewSoloff, Michael Powers, Matt Wilson, Jerry Vivino, Grant Green Jr., P.J. Lougrhan, KatyPfaffl, Brian Charette, and many others, performing all styles from HipHop to Modern Jazz. In 2003, Scott amicably parted ways with The Chesterfields and began recording demos for what is now his debut solo album, Dawnbreaker;, with Producer/Engineer Charles Martinez (Rob Thomas, Keith Richards, MickJagger) and drummer Charlie Drayton (Keith Richards, B-52's). Scott's music can tell stories of fast living and urban isolation (A Thousand Days and In Her Arms&), explore the trials and complexities of love (Down), or express a need for truth and spiritual redemption (Approval and Show Us The Way). All of these lyrical themes, combined with an endless palate of relentless grooves, soulful vocals, soaring guitar work, and dense harmonies culminate to create a universal soul music that is the music of Scott Sharrard. Dawnbreaker Written, Arranged and Performed by Scott Sharrard Produced by Scott Sharrard and Charles A. Martinez Mixed by CAM Music and Lyrics by Scott Sharrard, Copyright 2003/2004 (except track 1, additional music by Charles A. Complices

Luis Miguel returns in 2008 hotter than ever with his long awaited studio album, Complices. This sensational worldwide music artist has released 23 albums and sold over 52 million albums in his career. Internationaly known for his romantic ballads, crooning vocals, and chart topping hits, Luis Miguel has sold out shows around the world. Manuel Alejandro has joined in the production of Complices bringing even more star power to this this album.
Customer Review: A good album destroyed by three songs
The album Should have not included the three songs mentioned in the previous review. These songs cut the flow of the mood, they are faster and over produced. I can't believe Luis Miguel is still singing those poppy cheesy styled songs he used to sing in the eighties. It is a shame to ruin such a great line up of songs with three songs that should have been sung by Tom Jones. I believe an album that consists mostly of ballads should include mid tempo, sexy, groovy songs to break the monotony, not cheesy poppy disco songs with choruses that will make your woman jump out of your bed and attach herself to the ceiling like a freaked-out tarantula. Luis Miguel should sing ballads,R&B,soul,Jazz, even sexy chilled-out house, but leave those songs for Tom Jones, he is the king of that style.
Customer Review: Now the marvel of Complices.
This disk is for the sensitive people and the people that understand music. It's not a contemporary radioplay. Luis Miguel interprets beatifully every song. Passion and provocative poetry are in each song of the disc. Luis Miguel and Manuel Alejandro created a great joy for those who know about music.

Jewelry is more than just an accessory; its a way to show off your own unique style and personality. In fact, it can very much be considered an art just as much as fashion can. It is really the frosting on the cake when it comes to fashion, after all. Not only to the people who wear it, but to the designer, this is a vision brought to life to express who they are. This is why it is really the more rare artisans who make their own jewelry who should be at the forefront of the fashion world.

As consumers it is our job to make sure that these artisans who are really creating art with their jewelry are able to continue bringing to life these unique creations. Hugo Puerto, a resident of Orlando, Fl, saw this and put his entrepreneurial expertise to the test creating his own company that would market Latin-American artisans work throughout the world.

His company, Innovations Arts, brings these exclusive pieces of Latin-American art to the global community. Allowing this jewelry to be seen world-wide through the use of the internet, helps not only customers to find the unique product they are looking for, but also helps these artisans be able to continue creating their art by giving them a huge new market. The jewelry sold at www.innovationsarts.com can only be found on that website and is not available in stores. These limited collections allow for the customers to know that what they are wearing is unique. Jewelry no longer has to be something to run with the pack, you can now stand out and express yourself while knowing that in purchasing these pieces you are allowing someone else to continue creating the art they love. With a system like this everybody can win.

Cathleen Plazas is a 21 year old college senior studyingPsychology and International Theater. She is also the press director forInnovations Arts and has been working with Hugo Puerto since the company'sfounding. An Orlando native born to Colombian parents, with a keen eye forfashion and a heart for helping others she is very excited to be part ofsuch a great company.

By the 1940's the saxophone was a well established and very popular instrument in both classical and jazz music. As the 40's brought more musical styles like jump blues, rhythm and blues and rock and roll the instrument would become even more important and play a major roll in the new sound.

Illinios Jacqeut was a very good swing jazz player and like many others he was drawn to the new sounds. He was only19 years old when he worked with Lionel Hampton's band and recorded his famous solo that started others honkin' and screramin' to start the beginning of the rock and roll saxophone.

One kid he inspired was Big Jay McNeely who took the honkin' over the edge and made a show of it... laying on his back, strolling into the crowds and walking on top of bars. (That's where the term "honkers and bar walkers" came from. That's a good cd compilation series featuring other rock and roll saxophonists)

Ahh... those crazy kids. This was a new generation, born in the 20's right around the time Louis Armstrong and Coleman Hawkinswere coming on the scene. They probably thought these guys were nuts, but they fuelled the bands and drove the audience crazy with their energy.

Honkin' and screamin' aside, the saxophone, especially the tenor was sounding big and raunchy like never before. Guys were growling more and making it squawk and really wailin'. The honkin' was a fad that passed quickly but it helped to take the sax to another level of popularity, The rock and roll saxophone sound was now mandatory in all the jump, R&B, and rock and roll bands.

This new sound of the 40's rhythm and blues produced many rock and roll saxophone stars. Besides the ones I mentioned above, here's a few others; Joe Houston, Red Prysock, Sam "the man" Taylor, Lee Allen, Willis "gatortail" Jackson, Louis Jordan and King Curtis.

"Tenor battles" were popular as soon as you had a couple greats at any given time, like Coleman Hawkins with Lester Young, or Red Prysock with Sil Austin, and two of my favorites Sam Taylor with King Curtis.

Most of these guys were coming from the swing scene as well but were involved with their own R&B / rock and roll groups or were sidemen to star singers like Little Richard, Fats Domino, Wynonie Harris, and Ray Charles.

Without a doubt, one of the most influential for us guys playing any kind of rock and roll saxophone today is King Curtis, who came onto the New York scene shortly after the rock and roll movement got into full swing in the mid 50's. Of coarse you've heard his sax on many hit records from Aretha Franklin to The Coasters and he had many of his own as well in the 60's.

Unfortunately he was killed tragically at a young age. For me, his was the quintessential rock and roll saxophone

Wedding Videography is the new Photography. No a days all you hear about is how awesome Wedding Videography is. So what is it? Not everyone knows about it... yet! Let me give you some insight to how amazing Wedding Videography is and how much you'll want it at your picturesque Wedding day.

First off, Photography is great. You capture beautiful still shots that can be remembered forever. However, Videography is just a step above that. Not only can you capture amazing still shots of your beautiful Wedding day, but you are also able to hear voices, speeches, laughter, music, etc. Instead of seeing a still shot of you and your new spouse dancing that first dance together, you'll actually see the beautiful dance, your hear the emotional music, and will see the sweet tears.

Videography allows you in years to come to put the DVD into your player and watch the wedding day as if it was right before you. No more missing those small special moments anymore! With a Videographer rolling the camcorder at all times, you're sure to never miss a thing. Videographers are special people, who have to not only roll the camera, but has to make sure that the feeling and emotions felt that Wedding day is transferred over appropriately to film.

Taking footage and setting it to the music and style of your choice in the background, a Videographer goes though usually 16 hours of footage and brings back those special moments and emotional feelings by selecting scenes from the brides getting ready to the venue and shots of the decorations, to the ceremony, vows, tears, guests, dinner, first dance with your new spouse, dances with your parents, cake cutting, garter & bouquet toss, interviews with important guests and anything of importance that may have happened at your Wedding.

Many of the stars have started using Wedding Videography. Many interviews, one particular interview with a star, Christina Aguilera where she talks about how having a Wedding Videographer was the most important vendor to have at her wedding. Talking about how you can have your cake, flower, centerpieces, your dress, etc. But if you don't have someone to document your Wedding Day... all those things are worthless and wouldn't matter cause you wouldn't remember the Wedding day as it was ever again. I know many people that didn't have a Videographer at their Wedding and they say it was the worst mistake. Pictures are great.

However, Wedding Videography is just so much more. Videography is real, its people in motion, its spoken words, and its just real and that is so very important. Another option is if a guest at your Wedding video recorded parts of your Wedding, beg them for that footage! Once you've acquired the footage, take that footage to a Wedding Videographer and they can transfer that footage to a DVD for you and fix it so it becomes prettier, my stylish, and much more cinematic.

So don't let that happen to you! Make sure that the first vendor you acquire is a Wedding Videographer. You want to make sure you have one by your side to document the most special day of you life!

If you'd like to take your child on a stimulating field trip, may we suggest a trip to the opera? That's right, the opera, the one where the fat ladies sing and the music is as old as the hills.

You may ask why, but I have first hand experience that tells me kids like opera! These are the same kids who play Nintendo, watch Scooby Doo and eat Doritos.

It's important to give kids a chance to look beyond television, movies and pop music and give them a sense of cultural perspective, not to mention a fun history lesson.

Kids like old-fashioned operatic spectacle, and the sense of performing event that you can't get elsewhere. And they like that the audience is mostly adults, so they feel special being included in a grown-up event.

And don't plan on staying for the whole show. In case you didn't know, operas have a way of lasting at least three hours, far too long for most kids, unless it has spaceships and popcorn.

You can just visit for one act, so if the child is bored, you can leave. But they won't be bored.

Your child will be fascinated by the antiquated stage machinery, the pomp, the splendor, and of course, the singing and the music.

If you can, get seats as close as possible so you can see the actors sweat and strain to sing those absurdly difficult high C's.

It's fun to watch the sausage being made!

Clearly you'll be limited in your choice of operas to see, depending on where you live. Here's a list of classic crowd pleasers. Act One of any of these shows will knock you out, and it's likely these operas will be in the repertoire.

CARMEN: Swirling spectacle and rivalry. Familiar, great music.

LA BOHEME: Lush, Romantic spectacle.

THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO: Mozart's comic swashbucklers.

If opera is too intense, or too old fashioned, take your child to a large Broadway type of production, one with sets and costumes and an orchestra. Choose the biggest and fanciest production you can.

Sit as close as possible.

In the words of a child who saw an opera for the first time at the age of seven, "I liked it when the fat lady sang and then the guy came out with his sword to kill the other guy."

You can't beat that for cultural enrichment.

When it comes to the sound of the acoustic guitar a feeling of romance is sure to be conjured up by the many aficionados of this great musical instrument. The music spectrum of this instrument include hot spicy flamenco dance numbers and soft and melodic songs with many textures of sound and melody. Not many people will appreciate the range of music an acoustic guitar has, but just about everyone will recognise the beautiful tunes that an acoustic guitar makes.

Have you ever had the dream of being able to play an acoustic guitar? Do you ever walk past a shop that sells them, and get the urge to go inside pick one up, feel the sturdy neck and caress the strings to play a tune? Did you ever wonder how much it would cost to learn to play one? Or have you wondered just how difficult it would be to learn maybe?

Imagine how good it would be to be sitting in front of your friends and family and show off your newly acquired talent of being able to play the guitar you just bought. Do you ever think in frustration that if you only had the time you could seriously get down to the business off learning to play.

Although you might get the idea that acoustic guitars are some kind of magical instruments there is nothing really that special in their make up. It is just their music that conveys that special mysticism that surrounds them. Think about when you were little and learned to write. At first it seems like you have achieved something that is wonderful but eventually it becomes second nature to undertake all kinds of writing assignments with a mere pencil being the instrument that allows you to do this. This is the same with an acoustic guitar, it is merely the instrument that allows you and your skill to make beautiful music. And as far as learning to play the acoustic guitar, the same principles like learning to write apply. You start to doodle first by playing around with it and then you get more and more the feel of it till music starts to pour out from your fingers into the guitar.

Indeed an acoustic guitar does come across as a fairly compelling instrument, especially if you never played it before. When music comes out of guitars it stands head and shoulders above the sounds of most other instruments which is why it is so popular. Practice enough and you can almost play any tune.

The outstanding qualities that the acoustic guitar has, often leads people to approach it with too much awe. They can't see that the music comes not from the guitar but from the person that plays it.

You will not be wasting your time if you take the time and energy to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. So if you happen to have one gathering dust in the attic, then go get it, or go and buy one at your local music store. Whatever you do, you will not be disappointed.

Ivan Calderwell writes for acousticguitarshops.com where you can easily find the acoustic guitar you always wanted as well as all the latest news, views and reviews on this great musical instrument.

For centuries the world's greatest musicians and composers have had a secret weapon that only few knew about. The astounding fact is that every single person has this same ability lying undiscovered inside! This special ability is pitch recognition, more commonly known as perfect pitch and relative pitch. These two skills have been the guiding force behind some of music's biggest names.

Here are some interesting facts that you should know:

  • 10% of students at the leading music schools, including Julliard School of Music, have perfect pitch.
  • A symphony orchestra usually includes 20% - 40% of musicians with perfect pitch.
  • Numerous leading surveys have concluded that at least 50% of today's top recording artists have either perfect pitch, relative pitch, or both!

Perfect pitch can be taught to anyone regardless of their genetics or age. This method has been taught to musicians who are in their 50s and 60s! It is simply a skill like any other. There is no such thing as a natural, only a student. Attaining perfect pitch is done through ear-training and learning how your voice sounds not through your ears, but through the ears of your listeners. The fact is, we sound differently to ourselves than we sound to others. Even more so, we sound differently on a recording than we do live. As an experiment, record your voice onto your voicemail and listen back. It sounds different. Now, if you have access to a higher quality recording microphone, you can practice some sounds at different pitches to hear where you're at vocally.

Now, after these experiments, don't delete or erase those recordings. You'll want to listen to them again after your vocal training course. There are many courses available, some not so good, and some written by true experts.

Record yourself singing along to a song. Listen back to your recording. Take notes on the following points:

  • Are you in Tune with the music? - your notes should match the song.
  • Is your voice weak or strong? - shouting is NOT Singing!!
  • Are you breathing correctly? - you should not be short of breath
  • Do you struggle to reach the notes - pick an easy song to start with!
  • Are you gasping for air between phrases - learn to breath in the "rests" between phrases

Record yourself again with another song. Listen to the difference in your practice recordings as you progress. Proper vocal care is also important, and there are several things you can do to ensure your voice is in peak performance every day:

  1. Drink water to keep your body well hydrated, and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Your vocal cords vibrate very fast, and having a proper water balance helps keep them lubricated. Foods containing large amounts of water are excellent hydration-conscious snacks, including apples, pears, watermelon, peaches, melons, grapes, plums, bell peppers and applesauce.
  2. Allow yourself several "vocal naps" every day, especially during periods of extended use. Try to avoid speaking for 30 minutes straight, a few times a day.
  3. Don't smoke, or if you already do, quit.
  4. Don't abuse or misuse your voice. Avoid yelling or screaming, and try not to talk loudly in noisy areas. I
  5. Keep your throat and neck muscles relaxed even when singing high notes and low notes.
  6. Pay attention to how you speak every day. Even performers who have good singing habits can cause damage when they speak. Many skilled singers don't continue their healthy habits when they speak.
  7. Don't clear your throat too often. When you clear your throat, it's like slamming your vocal cords together.
  8. When you're sick, spare your voice. Don't talk when you're hoarse due to a cold or infection. Listen to what your voice is telling you.
  9. When you have to speak publicly, to large groups or outdoors, think about using amplification to avoid straining your voice.
  10. Humidify your home and work areas. Remember, moist is good for the voice.

You have numerous options for vocal study courses. Don't be fooled by the cheap immitations, or the "American Idol Singer's Training Kit", even the people who endorsed it, Randy and Paula, laughed at it last year on the show. A professionally produced product, backed by years of experience is what you want to look for. You could opt for a vocal coach, but be prepared to pay a premium for this privilege. Home study courses are an attractive alternative, but may not completely replace the skills of a live coach. The Perfect Pitch vocal training product has helped countless people become the vocalist that they strive to be.

The inhabitants of the beautiful seaside city of Cape Town, South Africa, are notoriously easygoing. And even though the Mexican idea of siesta has not been instituted here, the concept is certainly not foreign to any deserving Capetonian. No wonder the Mother City's social scene is bursting at the seams with an exciting mix of laid back lounges , serious clubs and trendy bars with a decidedly African twist.

Ironically, one of the coolest hangouts in Cape Town, is called Joburg. Even though most South Africans travel long distances without blinking twice, an invitation to party in Joburg doesn't necessarily mean booking a flight to Johannesburg. This legendary bar-club is situated in the bustling, cosmopolitan Long Street, and attracts an extremely varied crowd from trendy locals, grungy art students and international models to part-of-the-furniture regulars and weathered backpackers. You might even find the occasional businessman enjoying an after work drink, seamlessly blending in with the relaxed atmosphere of the place.

The quirky, predominantly red interior is enhanced by a mirror ball shaped like the Johannesburg skyline as well as an impressive permanent collection of work by famous local artists including such respected South African icons as Conrad Botes, Doreen Southwood and Brett Murray.

Adjacent to the bar, is the relatively tiny dance area jokingly referred to as Pretoria where some of Cape Town's best DJ's do their thing. The eclectic sounds they produce are synonymous with Joburg and include anything from serious Hip-Hop, to Electro Eighties Pop and Live Jazz. From the wall of the raised DJ-box a neon sign declaring the sentence Know thy worth, casts a sexy glow on the good looking crowd getting down with it, below.

For late night winding down, head a block further up the road to the equally fashionable Marvel, where you'll most definitely find the religious Joburg crowd getting their late night fix of vinyl scratching, while lounging in the bistro-style seating till the early hours of the morning.

Further down the street, the choice of venue is as diverse as the many cultures housed in this city. At Orchard Bank sip on fishbowl-sized cocktails in the minimalist lounge, or head to the huge dance floor in the basement, where a mixed crowd dances to anything from House, to Pop and Reggae.

Diagonally opposite, down a hidden, narrow alley, is the sleek Miam-Miam where early night drinks can easily turn into late night dancing. But if you're not in the mood for a squeaky clean crowd, head upstairs to Zula where Cape Town's Goth crowd headbang to the dark sounds of serious Metal, Goth-Funk and the occasional live band.

On the other side of town, in the slightly more commercial clubbing hot spot of Somerset road in Greenpoint, devoted clubbers rub shoulders with students on mid-week booze binges and trendy suburbanites looking for their fix of serious dancing. Here, designer hangouts like Opium - a winning combination of stylish cocktail lounge and serious dance floor - and the more definitive clubbing hub, Confessions, draw polished crowds who are as serious about their fashionable attire as they are about their dance moves.

On a prominent street corner in this district, Cape Town's oldest and most famous gay club, Bronx, is situated. Here predominantly gay men and a rather strong following of straight women come to enjoy good music and incredibly good-looking barmen. The varied crowd inevitably includes some straight-guys-in-the-know, hoping to find a beautiful girl with her guard down.

If any or all of the above sound like too much of a commitment, head over the mountain to the breathtakingly beautiful Camps Bay, where you can have a quiet drink in a sophisticated cocktail lounge while soaking up the sun and enjoying some of the most spectacular sunsets on the African continent.

With a happening social scene and such a wide range of incredibly cool venue's, Cape Town is any holiday maker's paradise. No matter what your preference or mood if you plan to visit Cape Town with the intention of winding-down, you're most certainly on your way to the perfect destination.

Rough Guide to World Music Volume Two: Latin and North America, the Caribbean, Asia & the Pacific (Rough Guide Music Guides)

Customer Review: Extraordinary: Overwhelmingly Wonderful
The research here is remarkable. The scholarship is first-rate, the information exhaustive (although never definitive since world music grows with leaps and bounds moment by moment). I love dipping into this attractively illustrated, logically organized, and utterly helpful guide to find whole realms of sound which I not only didn't know existed but also could not even have imagined existed without the help of these fine fans of the music about which they write so clearly and well. The world today is a depressing place. Sorrow is everywhere one turns. But this celebration of music continually energizes and revivifies. Buy it; enjoy it; and expand your CD collection.
Customer Review: Everything V. 1 was for Middle-East, African, & European ...
... this one is for Latin & North American, Caribbean, Indian, Asian/Pacific idioms. I picked up the original '94 edition to explore World Beat rhythms in improvisatory settings, and was excited to hear the new edition would cover two volumes. I am NOT displeased !!
