THE POSTAL SERVICE - CONE - T-SHIRT

Music is so common and widespread in our culture that frequently many of us take for granted the right we have (or think we have) to play it. Most people fail to realize that a legal license is required by law to play any copyrighted music.

Copyrighted Music

So what constitutes copyrighted music? The majority of music (if not all of it) that you hear is copyrighted, which means an individual or group of individuals hold the exclusive right to copy, license, or otherwise use a musical work. Generally those individuals are the people who created and produced the music. Whether it is from the radio, on a CD, or legally downloaded in the form of an MP3 file, the music is copyrighted. Companies (namely retail businesses and corporations with on hold music) are not allowed to play music from compact discs, the radio, or anything other media form for their clients and customers without obtaining the proper licenses first. This means one cannot simply hook up the radio, MP3 player, or a CD to play for customers; doing so will make you liable and result in unnecessary lawsuits and hefty fines.

It is imperative to know the difference between re-broadcasting music in a commercial setting versus listening to it strictly for private enjoyment. Consumers are permitted to buy CDs and legally download MP3 files for their personal enjoyment for them; you are allowed to play the music within your own home, private office, or car. The re-broadcasting of licensed music within any commercial establishment (such as a restaurant, office lobby, store, etc) is not permitted and is subject to legal fines and fees.

No License?

If you choose to re-broadcast copyrighted music in a commercial location without a proper license, there is the possibility that you will not get caught and nothing will happen to you. Since monitoring literally millions of pieces of copyrighted music that play every single day throughout the country is practically impossible, there is the possibility that you will not get caught. However, licensing organizations such as Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) are stepping up efforts to contact businesses that use music (whether in a retail store or on hold) to make sure they have all the proper and necessary licenses to play that music.

Be forewarned that if you do get caught and are charged for copyright infringement (illegally playing copyrighted music), fines can be as steep as $20,000 for each song (or performance) you played without a license. If it can be proven that the infringement was intentional, the fines will increase substantially and rise possibly as high as $100,000. Contact a licensing organization to get the licenses to play the music you want to play for your customers.

On Hold Marketing Messages

One of the preeminent and most secure ways to guarantee the content and music your customers hear on hold or in a commercial establishment is legal and exactly what you want is to get a custom on hold marketing message Music is so common and widespread in our culture that frequently many of us take for granted the right we have (or think we have) to play it. Such a recording will guarantee that your clients customers hear exactly what you want them to while they are on hold; it is a perfect time to nonchalantly discuss products and services you offer without being intrusive or overbearing. Plus, the cost of having such a message created is substantially less than the fees and fines you are likely to incur if you illegally used licensed and copyrighted music.

When Xavier Cugat, the rumba king, appeared with his Chihuahuas in movies and on television in the late 1930s and 1940s the Chihuahua breed received great exposure and became quite popular.

Because of the Chihuahuas exposure in movies and television, the Chihuahua began one of the most meteoric rises in numbers of any breed in American Kennel Club history. The Chihuahua reached its peak in 1964 and became the third most popular breed in the United States. About a century after its discovery, the Chihuahua became one of the most recognizable breeds. The AKC now registered an average of 40,000 Chihuahuas each year. Both long and short haired Chihuahuas are popular as lap dogs around the world.

For many people Chihuahua is the only dog for them. However, Chihuahuas are not for everyone. Chihuahuas can be quite challenging.

Size of the Chihuahua

For many people the size of a dog is most important. The Chihuahuas small size makes it convenient for matters such as space, food bills, grooming and exercise. However, small dogs dont make effective protection dogs, they run underfoot and people can easily trip over them. They can be easily injured by falling objects, larger dogs, and wild children. They are more susceptible to cold weather, missed meals and certain health problems. They are, however, extra cute dressed in t-shirts, coats, dresses, shirts and just about any kind of clothing on the dog market today.

Chihuahuas are not a good choice for homes filled with children or heavy-footed adults. Chihuahuas cannot live outdoors. They cannot withstand cold weather and need a lot of companionship with humans. Even long coated Chihuahuas cannot cope with cold weather.

Temperament of the Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are intelligent, willing to please and make trustworthy companions. They are one-family or one-person dogs. They can become devoted to the point of becoming clingy. They are definitely lap dogs. The Chihuahua can be bold and quick witted. Watch out for intruders ankles who trespass with the Chihuahuas approval. Expose your Chihuahua to visitors at an early age so they will learn to accept them graciously. Chihuahuas are usually barkers. They usually bond well with other Chihuahua housemates. They are among the most devoted of all dogs. They bond deeply with their family forming a lifelong commitment to their people. It can be particularly devastating to a Chihuahua to be uprooted from loved ones. Do not get a Chihuahua unless you plan on keeping him for a lifetime.

Mother Britney Spears takes her pants off in public with Paris Hilton, while proceeding with a divorce and custody battle for her children. Certainly this was not a very smooth move on Britney's part.

Britney Spears recently dumped and proceeded to divorce her husband. Telling the world that she wants to improve her image and career, Britney's actions certainly don't affirm that.

The newly-liberated pop star enjoyed a wild 'girls night out' in Sin City with Miss Hilton this weekend; dancing, laughing and chain-smoking throughout the night.

The unlikely pair landed at club Tryst in the Wynn hotel, where Britney was spotted getting down and dirty on the dance floor to several Paris Hilton songs. In fact, things got so heated, Britney ditched her pants -- and danced around the club in a pair of fishnet stockings!

Reading some of her fans posted comments on TMZ (which I've written below) is revealing:

"Britney dumps Fed-Ex to hang out with Parisite Crotch???"

"Umm... where's her kids?"

"She needs to shape up, not a good picture for child custody battle. Although, Federjerk is worse than she is."

"She is a poor role mode, she looks gross..."

"She and Paris never got along, she was jealous of Paris. She is a drinking, cigarette smoking, weed head. She and Kevin are one in the same, take away Britney's money, and she and Kevin are EXACTLY the same - white trash, she just has money."

"Ha. I knew her cleaned up image was too good to be true. She should have stayed with K-Fed - their white trash ways suited each other. But please, doesn't she realize that she's a mother to TWO children now. She needs to grow up. Oh, and cigarettes are making her look old and tired before her time."

"If I were Britney, in the middle of a custody battle, I for one would not be clubbing every night in sin city, bad for the 'I'm a good momma' court defense, two would not be hanging out with ...Parisite, that in itself is going to kill her career!"

"She needs to be careful of what she does and who she hangs out with if she really loves her kids, and this is not looking good for her!!!"

"If you wanted to clean up your career, hanging with Parisite was not the way to do it!!!
Do you have PR people, staff that can help you and give you a honest opinion?"

"Is the partying right now worth the custody of your kids??? THINK!!!"

"If your working, that's one thing, need a night out, another, but being out almost every night since her separation, drinking, smoking, hanging out with "Parisite" & others, Is she trying to lose her children? Because she is doing a better job at that than she is at Parenting, Marriage and Career."

"Britney has MENTAL problems. Why don't people get that? She is a little immature girl in a woman's body. She is not fit to be a mother, period. Dancing in a club with no pants on? Unbelievable!"

Well, based on these responses three things are for certain. First, Britney and Paris (as well as a good number in show business) were never intended to be "role models." Secondly, immaturity clothed in an adult body is a pity when children are involved. Thirdly, those who closely follow these celebrities and devote their time to angrily discuss and write about them could be spending there time better elsewhere.

Coming of age is one thing, maturing is another. Pray for these beautiful young ladies, because once their beauty fades they will need to secure their identities internally. Most importantly remember everybody needs love. Just because you are famous does not mean you know and have unconditional love apart from your performance and appearance. Therefore pray for and be gracious to these ladies. Malice toward none and charity for all.

Staring at the Ceiling

Staring at the Ceiling...a slew of radio-friendly, hook-driven, original songs - upbeat yet mellow, thoughtful but always accessible. Hackbarth selected tunes that spanned almost three years if writing, pulling material from many of the styles he has come to call his own. From the optimistic "Guam" to the quintessential love ballad, "Last Girl", there is something for everyone on one of the best alternative/pop albums of the year...
Customer Review: Great album from a great new band.
The release of Acoustic Radio's first album, "Staring at the Ceiling", coupled with my wish that great independent bands get the exposure they deserve, was enough to prompt me to review my first album. Having moved from Boulder to Los Angeles almost 2 years ago, I was thrilled to find that Acoustic Radio finally had an album out. Having followed the band, as well as the careers of members' prior to the bands formation, I could not wait to get my hands on my own copy of "Staring at the Ceiling". Every time I listen to this album I have a different favorite song. The lyrics are meaningful and insightful and, front man Andy Hackbarth's voice is one of the best in a crop of great, new and largely undiscovered voices. The melodies ebb and flow, at some times upbeat and addictive and at other times calm, peaceful and full of meaning. The musical talent in this band is unsurpassed. My favorites include the opening track, "Postcards from Florida", the catchy "7 Stairs", the upbeat, quirky "Anywhere but Here" and the soulful "Taxi". This is definitely an album worth checking out for both fans of popular alternative music as well as anyone looking for a fresh voice and sound. I can only hope they get around to visiting us out here in LA. I also know they have plenty of material and can't wait for their next album.

Playing guitar should be fun, and learning to play the acoustic guitar is a good way to start. Acoustic is bit more difficult to learn than electric, but to begin learning acoustic all you need is a guitar and a pick, or plectrum, so most people start with acoustic, and then go on to electric if that is what they want.

However, there are some things you should know before you start, and this applies to any type of guitar playing, not only acoustic. Some of these might sound designed to put you off playing, but they are not intended that way and are things that every player should know and come to understand in time.

The first is that if you are the kind of person that starts something and then loses interest or gets bored and tends to go onto something else, then guitar playing is not for you. It requires dedication and long hours of practice, and unless you are committed to it then you are likely better trying something other than guitar. In order to be any kind of guitar player you should be prepared to set aside at least an hour a day for guitar practice, and never deviate from that. Sometimes you might not feel like it, but keep it up or you will never make it. Learning to play the acoustic guitar involves a lot of practice, and practice is the main way to become a decent player.

Be prepared for pain. Guitar strings cut into your fingers and it will hurt at the start. Every good guitar player has to go through this, but eventually you will develop calluses on your fingertips and you will suddenly find guitar playing comfortable and fun. You should also strengthen your grip so that you will find it easier to hold the guitar. When you start playing you will be using muscles in your hands that you hardly used that way before, and that too will hurt at first. The stronger your fingers and your grip the better it will be for you, so take a tip and buy yourself one of these grip strengtheners or use a tennis ball to squeeze on regularly. You will soon be able to run your fingers up and down the fret without any discomfort at all.

If you are prepared to carry on having learned these facts then you are ready to start learning. If you have not bought your guitar yet, you have two choices. Either purchase a cheap one, or better still, borrow a spare one from a friend and use that until you find if you really are suited to the guitar, or just go ahead and purchase the best you can. You should buy the best possible guitar that you can afford, because with guitars you get what you pay for. However, if you aren't sure if you want to continue with it, it could be an expensive purchase, hence the cheapo to try out first.

Now pick it up and have a good look at it. Get to know the function of each part of it. Understand the purpose of the soundbox, check out the strings and how they are constructed. Find out how the notes change as you go up and down the frets. Try out two or three different types of plectrum, or pick. Not the difference between a soft and a hard pick, and try to determine which gives a sound closest to the one you like best.

Once you understand how your instrument is constructed, and how it makes the sounds that it does, then that is just about all you need know before you start learning to play the acoustic guitar. One thing that has not been mentioned: music. We can all get so engrossed in the instrument itself that we can lose sight of what an acoustic guitar is for: to play music. That is something that you have to understand - playing the guitar might seem like a cool thing to do, especially if your buddies all have a guitar, but if you are not really interested in music much then there is not much point in you starting lessons.

By music I don't mean listening to the latest chart stuff, but real music. The music that you read and play, and the type of music that inspires you. It takes a musical inclination to play it rather than just listen to it, and that is why the vast majority of people who buy a guitar never actually get far with it. They think it a cool thing to do, but aren't really interested in music other than the latest by Leona Lewis or Ray J.

So there you are: the things you should know before learning to play acoustic guitar. If you still want to learn after reading that then you likely have what it takes to become a good player. The key is practice, and if you practice enough then you will eventually get where you want to be.

Coming Out of the Dark

Designed as a companion to the singer's 1991 Into The Light--World Tour concert video, this look behind the scenes in Gloria Estefan's career draws drama and urgency from her recovery following a disastrous bus accident, which crippled the Cuban-American performer even as her popularity pushed further into the pop mainstream. Produced for the video arm of her record company, Coming Out of the Dark is hardly an objective documentary, laced as it is with testimonials from executives and frankly designed as a valentine to the feisty star; when we're given an "informal" look at Estefan composing new material in her music room, there isn't a figurative hair out of place as captured through these expertly shot segments.

The story, however, is intrinsically compelling, and Estefan offers her fans glimpses into the genesis of the songs from her Into the Light album. The singer's steely resolve, which doubtless explained the speed of her recovery, is visible, too, as is her sure sense of command over recording sessions. Brief performance excerpts show her saucy style of salsa-drenched pop, as well as less satisfying stabs at boiler-plate pop-rock songs that were aimed squarely at the charts. A segment chronicling a video shoot with choreographer-turned-director Kenny Ortega reveals both the technical intricacy of shooting elaborate dance sequences and the hyperbolic coddling platinum stars can expect from their most diplomatic handlers. --Sam Sutherland
Customer Review: THAT MOVIE IS THE BEST
i thought that movie is the best gloria did a great job on her recovery and i thought it was great. the picture was a little fizzy but it goes away .. great movie get it ..

Does this Moves show the accicent and does it show her recovery

The guitar has a long and rich history. Guitar like musical instruments date back 5,000 years. There are six string guitars, four string bass guitars, twelve string guitars. Musical styles include blues guitar, rock guitar, folk guitar. There's acoustic steel string guitars, nylon string classical guitars, electric guitars with amplifiers. You can play with a plastic pick or fingerpick style. Melody lines or chords. The variety is endless.

By now I guess you can tell that I love the guitar. I love listening to guitar music but most of all I love playing. Years ago I decided to teach myself. I had a certain aptitude for music as I played the trumpet in my grammar school orchestra for a great music teacher who taught us how to read music. My big solo was the Mexican Hat Dance. I didn't continue with the trumpet but I yearned to be able to make music. So I bought a cheap six string and set out to become the next big thing. I bought a chord book, you know the kind which shows you where to put your fingers for each chord. I discovered that many songs use the simplest grouping of guitar chords. I was on my way.

I learned very rapidly that like anything else in life, if you want to get better at something, practice, practice, practice. My skills slowly progressed and now I'm pretty decent, if I do say so myself. I don't play in a band or on stage but I can grab my guitar and enjoy myself any time I want. It's fun, relaxing and rewarding.

Now, with the internet, there is a wealth of guitar instructional material available to all. I wish that when I was starting out (before the internet was even invented) I had access to the myriad of guitar courses now available. It sure would have saved me a lot of time.

Downloadable ebooks, video based training...there's even downloadable software to slow down a recorded guitar solo so you can play along and figure out the notes for yourself. We've sure come a long way haven't we ? These tools are fantastic and best of all no driving to music lessons, no boring scales and you can learn at your own pace. Couple of things to keep in mind:

Patience - Rome wasn't built in a day and no one becomes a guitar expert overnight. But with perseverance I believe anyone can learn to play the guitar.

Fingers - Steel strings are made of steel. At first your fingers will probably hurt like hell but give it time and practice and your fingertips will harden up.

I hope that I've imparted to you my love and enthusiasm for playing the guitar. If you want to make music with your hands learning to play the guitar is the way to go! As always, thanks for reading and for your valuable time.

I've done the research and found what I consider to be the top five online guitar courses. I sure wish these has been available when I was starting my guitar journey. They're available at http://www.reviewsbytheigmonster.com/

Customer Review: Fantastic
This DVD along with Live and Off the Record are simply fantastic. Shakira is the whole package from the voice of an Angel to a body...well, that's out of this world!! How could you not love this goddess!!!!!
Customer Review: Bought it for the price. Ended up liking it.
It was available for less than fifteen so I picked it up. I liked Shakira's first major Spanish album before her international success. I hadn't really listened to her newer stuff. When I put it in I was pleasantly surprised. The visuals are great and the sound is even better. To be honest I do skip a few songs whenever I watch it but I still consider it a good purchase for the price.

Spanish music and dance has become very popular over the past decade. It has especially had a big influence on inner city youths mainly due to the popularity of singers such as J-Lo and Shakira. Spanish music has a fast beat that is punctuated rhythmic thumping of drums. When you hear this type of music, you simply cannot help but start to sway to the motion of the beats. It is simply hypnotic.

Spanish music and dance has experienced resurgence with the popularity of weight loss programs that feature moving to the beat. Zumba fitness DVDs pair pulsating Spanish and Latin rhythms with dance steps that were specially choreographed to get you moving. The idea behind programs like Zumba is that you will have so much fun listening to Spanish music and dancing that you won't even realize that your are exercising.

Of course, you don't need a Zumba DVD or fitness club to use Spanish music and dance as a form of exercise. Find a Spanish music station on the radio and start swaying your hips to the beat. You will work up a sweat in no time and will have fun doing it. It is a lot more fun if you have a dance partner. Call up your best friend and invite her over! If she isn't available, your child will enjoy dancing and exercising with you.

The most popular of the traditional Spanish dances is the Flamenco dance. Flamenco dancing is difficult to learn from watching a video. If you are interested in learning this type of Spanish dance it would be best to sign up for some dance lessons. The best way to learn to dance is to dance with someone who knows how. Most dance studios have promotions where you can take one dance lesson for free to see if you like it before signing up for a series of lessons.

Your Favorite Band Sucks Men's Sweat Shirt in 2 colors Small thru 3XL

Its a typical situation. Youve been putting a lot of energy in your craft and people are starting to talk about your band. Youve played a few shows and everyone is asking for a CD. I used to think that in order to release your own CD you would go out and play a bunch of shows and then someone would come out and sign you. Theyd take care of everything. Theyd set up the recording studio, organize the artwork, and pay for it to get manufactured. Thats not the case these days.

At present, technology is readily available for any budding musician to record, create, and duplicate CDs. CD duplication involves CD-R media. CD-R prices have dropped dramatically since the first CD Recorders were available on the consumer market. This makes it an affordable option for anyone who wants to copy their own CDs and pass them on to friends, family, or fans. This is a great option for the young band that is still getting their feet wet in the music industry. Duplicating a limited amount of CDs can keep a limited budget in place.

If your band is at the point were your ready to start selling your CD your best option is to make a retail-ready CD and having it replicated. What is a retail ready CD? These are the same CDs you find in the music stores by the major label artists. They have great artwork printed on CD inserts, a nice tray card insert, silk screened art on the CD, and they are shrink-wrapped.

The retail-ready CDs are not duplicated, but Replicated. This means that an exact replica of your CD master has been stamped out on all of the CDs. CD Replication is the way to go if you are serious about selling your music for profit. In fact most music stores will not sell duplicated CDs. Think about it this way. It is illegal to sell or profit from duplicating copy written material. If you tried to sell CDs that have been duplicated to a retail store youll more than likely get turned down. How are they to know that it is really your band? One of the best anti-piracy practices that CD manufacturing plants have instituted is the verification of copyright and ownership through a International Property Rights Form. Filling out an I.P.R. form ensures the CD Replication plant that they are not infringing on anyones copyright.

CD Replication not only shows that you value your art enough to have it made retail-ready, but also cost effective. Ill break it down in general.

DIY CD Duplication
  • 1 Computer with CD Recorder

  • 100 Memorex CD-R

  • CD Jewel Cases

  • Printer Ink

  • Man Hours

  • Total $1495.00Typical CD Replication Package
  • CD Replication for 1000 CDs

  • 1-3 color on-disc silk-screen imprint

  • CD Jewel box, assembly, professional quality film-wrap

  • 2 Panel Insert and Tray card

  • Bar Code

  • Total $1000.00

These prices are very approximate and are only used for the purpose of estimating the difference between CD Duplication and CD Replication. Lets dig in a little bit. Ive already illustrated some of the benefits of CD Duplication and the benefits of CD Replication. You can see above that you are spending approximately $500 more taking on the CD duplication responsibilities yourself and only getting 100 CDs!! Having your CDs Replicated costs less and someone else is doing the work. You can spend the time youd spend on CD duplication and practice your chops or promote your upcoming CD release party, saving yourself $500 that you can use for items like merchandising, t-shirts, stickers, and posters.

Whether you choose CD Replication or CD Duplication, youll need to do some research. There are plenty of resources available for CD Duplication and you probably own everything you need. It is up to you and your band to decide which option is better depending on what level you see your band on. Are you a band that plays parties or small clubs, or is your band seasoned and touring? There are benefits to both. Find a local CD manufacturer in your area and ask for their recommendation. Most CD manufacturers also offer quick turn high quality CD Duplication with printing on the CDs. Keep rockin!

Blake Stoffregen writes for many websites including Crystal Clear Sound CD & DVD Replication. Crystal Clear Sound provides cd, cdr and dvd duplication and replication services and offers packages from disc only to retail ready.

    GARBAGE - Boxed - Black T-shirt

Brand New, never worn, front and back print Black Authentic GARBAGE T-shirt.

There are few things more thrilling then standing on a stage playing an instrument or singing your heart out, while watching the fans below having a great time -- especially if a lot of them are of the opposite sex!

Yes, starting a rock band can be a lot of fun AND it can be profitable, if you follow a few easy steps while getting started.

    1. The first part is getting together a group of like-minded people who want to play music together. Make sure the other people have similar interests, morals and don't smell too bad. You will be spending a lot of time with them, so you should get a long well with each other or you'll be spending more time looking for replacements than you will playing music.

    2. Once you have the people in place, you need to agree on a style of music to play. If you have a songwriter in the group, you'll want to play those "originals." These are songs you will own, record and sell. If no-one in the group is a songwriter, you'll be playing "covers". When starting a rock band this is how most begin. Covers are other people's music that you like on the radio or from a certain era, or genre. (80s, 90s, or Classic Rock, etc.) While you can have a lot of fun and make a good living just playing covers, the real money and "rock stardom" come from playing originals.

    3. Next, you'll need to think about where you want to play. Wedding bands are mostly cover bands with a very wide variety of music styles. Since the band is not the star of the show (the bride is) they tend to be a little more subdued. If you want to play a lot of loud music with lots of stage antics, you'll be playing at clubs and theaters. Corporate gigs are great, since they can pay a lot of money, but they tend to best suited for established "show" bands, usually with a female singer or two.

    4. OK, so you've got the band together, you've learned the songs, now you're ready to go right? Wrong! Now is when you get ready to cash in on all the long hours you've spent learning your instrument and rehearsing with the band. This is where the band marketing and promotions come in. Think about the marketing of your band just like you would any other aspect of it. You wouldn't go on stage without your instruments, or a sound system, right? Well don't forget the marketing either.

    Marketing Items You'll Need:

    Band Name

    Banner

    Promo Kit (Online)

    Web Site Auto Responder

    5. Your band name will set the tone for your image. For example, if you are a heavy metal band, you'll probably want a name more like "The Devil Demons" rather than "The Cute, Fluffy Bunnies." Make sure your band looks and acts like your name name implies and relates to the music you play.

    6. Get a banner made up at any local sign shop that you can hang up behind you wherever you play. I can't tell you how many bands I have seen and have no clue who they were because they didn't have a banner.

    7. Next you'll need an online Promo Kit where you can store your band photos, demo music video of you playing, contact numbers etc.

    8. Your web site should have info about the band, some sample photos, music demos, videos, etc. Be sure your phone number is there where someone can easily find it. VERY IMPORTANT - Be sue you have a place where someone can sign-up to be on your mailing list.

    9. Which leads us to the Auto Responder. An Auto Responder creates a form on your web site so you can capture email addresses. It then stores them for you so you can automatically send out messages, or send them out whenever you want. This way your fans will know when and where you are playing. You can also send them notices of new music and merchandise you have for sale.

    10. Be sure whenever/wherever you play that you have someone with a sign-up sheet getting people's email addresses. You will then enter them into your mailing list. I can't stress enough how important it is that you create this fan base. This list of people will be who you market your shows and recorded music to for a long as you want to make money with your music. Every show you do without getting these emails could be the difference between you becoming a hugely successful, professional musician, or just having a fun hobby.

Most aspiring musicians fail to succeed, not due to a lack of talent, but from a lack of knowing what to do.

Learning jazz guitar can be intimidating and overwhelming for a beginning student. Unlike styles like rock, blues, and classical, jazz guitar demands that a musician master a wide variety of skills, including jazz guitar scales.

If you are absolutely fresh on jazz guitar, the first thing you've got to wrap your fingers around is the major scale and its modes. It's the reference against which all other scales are defined. Learn them in position as well as up and down single strings. It's also cool to practice them in one, two, and three octaves.

Once you've got those under your fingers and in your ears, it's time to start learning the melodic minor scale on guitar. The difference between a melodic minor scale and a major scale is only one note, the flat third. The melodic minor scale also has some really cool sounding modes, like lydian dominant which works over a 7#11 chord.

It's also important to learn your pentatonic scales. Most guitarists coming from a rock, blues, or country background are already familiar with the minor and major pentatonic scales, and if you aren't you have to check them out. The blues scale is also useful.

A common trap that students of jazz guitar fall into is only practicing scales up and down. Of course, it's important and is the first step to mastering jazz guitar scales. But if you're at a point where it's comfortable to play ascending and descending scales and you feel comfortable with the notes, the next step is to start practicing intervals and sequences. Also, try to vary the rhythm in your scale practice.

Learning jazz guitar scales is an essential part of mastering jazz guitar.

Carrie Underwood came to Fresno on May 28, 2008, and had her valley fans in frenzy when she appeared on stage to promote her latest album.

I must admit, I only knew a few songs. One of them being the "cheater" athemn of the year. "I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four wheel drive carved my name into his leather seat..." but with that I mind I really did not know what to expect.

I was pleased. Well, sort of. I cannot really complain. I did not pay for the tickets. For a free show, It was not too bad. The music was great and she has a wonderful voice. Hence, the reason she won American Idol. She was pleasant to the audience. She interacted with us and cheered everyone along as we sang with her. (Well only one song for me.) It was a great concert if the music is all you are going for. Miss Underwood is certainly not an entertainer. Even though there were costume changes and a cat -walk there was nothing to the show.

Sure there were bigger than life screens above the stage, but nothing to make you say "WOW"! Or even want to go see her again in the next town. It almost like watching a rock concrete but at least they have dancers or something a little more appealing. It was very hard for Miss Underwood to walk her heels. (Something that most artist learn the second they make it.) Her costumes were pretty plain. The first was a tank and jeans, a purple ballroom dress; that eventually turned into cocktail dress, another tank and jeans, and last, the same tank and jeans with a silver jacket over her tom.

The outfits were very plain. Something maybe should be kept in mind the next time she comes around. Maybe some dancers or even models that could walk the cat-walk when she sang "All-American Girl". Or possibly little skits by her band mates that just stood there as the lazers made cool pictures in the back of the staduim.

All in all, for a free concert, for me, it was not that bad. Good family fun if you know her music and do not want much of a show. It is a good thing she has never claimed to be an entertainer.
