Recording guitar is one of the most challenging arts that any recording engineer would have to master -- Well, that used to be...

There was a time when for you to record an acoustic guitar, you needed to get special mics called condenser mics (And at that, you needed specific types and models for best results). Then you needed to master the art of placing them at distances that will capture as much of the entire spectrum of sound produced as possible.

And if you know a thing or two about how sound is produced by the acoustic guitar, you'll agree with me that the entire length of the guitar's neck, the sound hole and the vibrations from the guitar's body have to be taken into account.

To say the least, only the very best engineers could get really great recordings of acoustic guitars.

There also used to be a time when no self respecting audio engineer would even consider recording an electric guitar without getting the best guitar amp he can lay hold of, crank up the volume and place a rugged dynamic mic (sometimes a padded condenser mic is also used) close to the speaker grille in order to get a great guitar cut.

But all that has changed now...

With electric acoustic guitars, you can get the best of acoustic guitar sound onto your recording without understanding even the most basic laws of sound waves. All you need to do would be to get specially designed electric acoustic guitars, plug in and hit "record" and you have a great acoustic sound for real. And the best part is: You won't even need a sound proof space for sound capture. You can record beside a freight train and still get your great recording.

How about the electric guitar...

with the introduction of great tools from companies like Line 6 you can record a great guitar solo without freaking out the neighbors and without paying big bucks for a studio session.

For some of the really cool tools for electric guitar recording, all you need is just a usb-enabled computer. Just that and you'll be churning out solos that will make Jimi Hendrix roll in his grave for envy.

And the coolest part of these new tools is that you don't really need to take a second mortgage in order to get them.

"I'd like to find a partner who dances. Do you?" my profile on Match.com asked. My now-husband Drew emailed that he was willing to take lessons, and that was enough for me. Non-dancer Drews courage to put himself out on the dance floor and to show in lesson after lesson his amateur status was truly impressive. We took private dance instruction for a year before our wedding, and as a result, got around the dance floor quite gracefully at our reception.

Women are dying to dance. Any man who can ask a woman to dance, then take charge of what happens on the floor and move relatively smoothly to music, has enormous appeal. Fat or skinny, short, tall, or not even close to attractive, even old, old, old, a man who is comfortable on the dance floor has his pick of the ladies.

For whatever the reason, dancing intoxicates. Especially women.

Few men can really dance, and those guys are on the floor constantly. Some men think they can dance and do get up, ask the ladies, and have fun. But at least half the men sit or stand uncomfortably on the sidelines with all the women who wish to be on the dance floor.

We women don't get to dance nearly as much as we'd like to, even the ladies who are good dancers. There aren't enough dancing men to go around. You can almost feel the yearning, the sadness, and the disappointment in those women and between those non-dancing couples. And the non-dancing guys? Pathetic.

I personally know three women close to my age who met their now - spouses on the dance floor, and those ladies were great catches! Gentlemen and ladies, there's a message here.

Guys:

1. Take lessons and learn how to dance. Leading well takes skill, but if Drew could learn how, so can you.

2. Go to dances.

3. Ask women to dance. Lots of women. They'll love it. Even if you aren't so good, they'll appreciate your efforts.

Dance lessons themselves are good places to meet women, and most dance studios have regular parties for their students to practice what they have learned.

Ladies:

1. Take dancing lessons yourself and learn how to follow. Here I was, 50 years old, thinking I loved to dance, and I had no idea how to do the woman's part! Following takes skill! You have to figure out what your partner has in mind for you to do in a split second, and then actually do it, all while dancing backwards.

2. Buy yourself some real ballroom dancing shoes, maybe with high heels. Believe it or not, those shoes are comfortable. They have to be. Not only do they look very sexy, they stay on your feet!

3. Hang out at dances, too, if you like to dance. Single guys go to dances.

If you are connected to a dance studio, other single women will be at their parties as well as the studio instructors and male students, so you will know people. Dance parties are safe and comfortable for single women.

Guys -- nothing enhances as man's romantic marketability more than becoming a decent dancer. Learning to dance is cost efficient and relatively painless. No surgery or blood loss, no sweaty hours at the gym, no personality makeovers needed. Just dance lessons.

What's stopping you? Look up the dance studio nearest you and make that call! You'll become a dancing babe magnet!

Turn the Lights Down

Buying a guitar is really exciting. But it will be appropriate only if the whole buying process can be judged properly. Once you have decided what to buy, next question is, where to but it from? A proper decision should be taken after a proper research is done regarding the place from where to purchase the guitar.

Basically there are two options to buy a guitar. One is to buy it from a store selling guitar and other musical instruments and the other is to buy it online. However, in each case there are pros and cons. These should be known to the buyer as it will help to settle for the best choice. So let's find out what extract can be taken out from buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store.

Talking about buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store, the first fact that strikes the mind is inspecting the product. As it is known that it is necessary to examine the model properly before buying it, therefore, in this regard it is better to opt for the store. The reason is simple; it is only possible in a store to check out different guitars at a time before buying. The same is naturally not possible in case of online buying. Also here the payment has to be made first i.e. before the guitar is delivered. But some of the online sellers have return policies too which enables the buyer to return the defective instrument after examining it within the given time .

Next point about buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store, is that the buyer will have to depend on the advertisement in case of online process. Whatever it will portray about the company and the model, the buyer will have to believe. On the other hand while buying from the store the facts stated by ads can be easily verified.

Then again, in case of buying guitars online, sometimes the shipping costs for buying or returning the guitar can be expensive. On the other hand, the stores don't have such kind of issues. Most of the time there is no shipping charge. With it comes the oppurtunity of negotiating the price, which is not possible in the online buying process.

Surrounded by drawbacks, the online process has many advantages too as compared to the stores. Needless to say, the online process is really very comfortable. The main reason being the fact that it can be done from home, which saves the trouble of visiting a store that is situated far off.

In the debate of buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store, the next fact that comes along is getting a guitar expert opinion. While buying from the store you either have to rely on your judgment or dealer's words. But while buying guitars online, this facility is provided by way of product reviews from experts as well as comments from users who have experienced buying from a particular site before.

Digging out the next fact from the discussion regarding buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store, is the variety option. The online process offers endless options about the guitars. Any kind of model or brand, sometimes even the rare models are easily available on the Internet. Whereas, in the stores the options are most of the time less and the rare models needs placing special order.

One of the important fact regarding buying guitars online is that most of the time the online companies have no sales tax charges. This saves you some money when you buy guitar online.

These were some trade offs to be considered while deciding on buying guitars online vs. buying guitars from a store. The final decision to a large extent depends on the individual preference and circumstances.

Sonido Amazonico!

Chicha is the name of a corn-based liquor the Incas distilled in the days before The Conquest, and the word's mysterious, boozy etymology makes it perfect for the musical style that bears its name. Chicha - the music - was spontaneously distilled during the culture clash of the '60s when the Indian population of the Peruvian Amazon blended Columbian cumbias with American rock & roll, particularly the twang heavy sound of surf music. With cheap electric instruments, Amazon Indians used the syncopated beat of cumbia as the foundation for melodies that sound to western ears like Andean folk music played on electric guitar supported by Tex-Mex style Farfisa. When the Indians moved to Lima, chicha became a thriving subgenre, but since the 70s the style has been dying out. Olivier Conan, owner of New York's Barbés nightclub and record label, discovered the music on a 2005 trip to Peru. In 2007, he put out a compilation called The Roots of Chicha. The music so captivated New York's downtown crowd that he put together Chicha Libre, a combo comprised of New York's musical scene makers, and started playing the old hits, and some new compositions, to packed houses. Part of the charm of the old chicha recordings had to do with their distorted, lo-fi approach, something that you can't match in a Manhattan recording studio. Nonetheless, Sonido Amazonico!, named after a hit by the chicha band Los Mirlos, is a sunny, upbeat collection guaranteed to bring a silly smile to your face. Vincent Douglas' plays a twangy guitar and Josh Camp plays a rare Hohner Electravox, an accordion-like instrument that sounds like a 70s Farfisa, anchor the band's timeless sound (the Electrovox is an electric hybrid; no air passes through it).

Like reggae, the chicha groove is so recognizable, and flexible, that almost any style of music can be played using it. The playing here has a lightness and humor that the originals lacked, but Chicha Libre's not making any claims about being authentic or keeping a lost tradition alive. They're playing it for kicks, and they supply plenty of 'em. ~ j. poet, All Music Guide

The super talented group Bloodsimple have released their most recent CD on the Reprise recording label, entitled Red Harvest.

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce thats exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it's own.

Red Harvest is a pleasantly varied, mix of 11 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly outstanding musicians. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

Listen to Red Harvest and I believe youll find there's not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and this is clearly the work of a group of musicians in top form. So much so that if you're even mildly into Rock music you'll enjoy this CD.

While this entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 4 - Dead Man Walking, track 6 - Suck It Up, and track 11 - Numina Infuscata

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is Ride With Me. Good stuff!

Customer Review: Be prepared! No music!
It was really not clear when purchasing this CD that it is only spoken word. I was at least able to determine this by reading the cover before taking off the plastic. How disappointing, especially for someone relatively new to Coldplay's music.
Customer Review: Don't understand.
I just don't get it. These reviews don't even make sense. It would also be nice if the track list was posted for potential buyers.

But, I needed to discover how to play songs!

I didn't know that the scales were really a part of that- I felt like Karate Kid, doing all those chores. The only difference was, my guitar instructor never really explained that these melodic scales would kick open many doors- I just felt eternal frustration and disappointment inside.

I wasn't getting to the meat- I was chewing on mush. bring in on the rock, I thought!

The good news is-

Gipsy Kings Fuego! The Videos

Why is it that after years of studying something as a child, we forget later in life what we learned? Such is the common question of how to play piano despite years of lesson. Here i get you back to playing music even if you think you've lost it, and have begun to give up on how to play piano despite years of lesson.

First, realize that you have had lesson in piano, years of it perhaps, and that DOES count for a whole lot. How to play piano despite years of lesson entails mentally realizing that you really are only a step or two away from being able to play piano. The problem is that it seems like that first step is a big hurdle, and obviously a frustrating one having already had lesson, but unable to play.

Second: Start slow, do scales. Get the basic scales out and go through them. It took me actually having to number my keyboard at first, i had forgotten so much. From there i was able to translate the numbers to notes, and the scales began to get familiar. So often in trying to figure how to play piano despite years of lesson we don't want to succumb back to the simple things. This scale practice is also preparation for the next step.

Third. Twinkle twinkle little star. That's correct. I can't think of a better way to get back in the game and figure how to play piano despite years of lesson than to go back to a simple melody or song and start playing it over and over. This connects everything - the notes, fingerings, melody and sound - all together as one, and the simplest route is by practicing a simple children's song. Again the hardest part is going to mentally get over the hurdle of playing little kids songs when you "feel" as if you should be playing grander pieces. But if one wants to get to grander pieces and answer the question of how to play piano despite years of lesson, then one has to bite the bullet and get back to raw basics.

Finally, one should research new ways of learning to play piano! Since most people last took lessons years ago, they may not realize that new methods or techniques have come out that can cut to the chase much more clearly and quickly than before. From teachers to online courses, there are different outlets and methods to now explore while realizing how to play piano despite years of lesson is definitely an achievable goal!

Quick and Easy Piano learning methods do now exist. Check out http://www.squidoo.com/easy-piano-play/ for Chess's blog to further find out how to play piano despite years of lesson. Thanks so much for reading and feel free to check out http://www.squidoo.com/easy-piano-play/ Thanks!

Guitars are music instruments that are very versatile; most musicians around the entire world use them because they find a guitar to be very easy to play.

They are also the most commonly chosen instrument for a student to start playing their way into music, mostly because it takes very little time to learn how to play it, and of course because it is not rare to be able to find a decent guitar for a very convenient price (unlike other instruments as pianos, for instance).

Today, all music shops offer a very wide variety of guitars, suitable for almost any musician, from beginners to masters. The most popular, however, are these two kinds of guitars: Acoustic guitars and electric 6-strings guitars.

Some very specialized vendors have started selling other classes of guitars; usually adaptations of the classical guitar made by different cultures all around the world. In these vendors shops, regular customers (mostly collectors) are able to buy guitars such as the Mexican guitarron, a huge guitar used by Mariachis, or as the guitarra criolla, an Argentinean adaptation of the 6-strigs classical guitar, used by Tango orchestras and also by the famous gauchos (the south-american version of cowboys).

Another advantage of guitars is that, once you learned the basics of music composition, you will find it easer to move into more complex instruments, such as violins, and keyboard instruments; which are more difficult to use as the first contact with music practicing.

Beyond all that, the key to guitars success (they are the most used musical instrument worldwide, and has been for a very long time) is what matters the most: its sound. The beautiful sound a guitar produces can be compared to the sound produced by instruments that are much more expensive, rare and hard to learn. That is what keeps a good guitar above the rest.

Scientist

The Second Single from the Chart Topping Album "a Rush of Blood to the Head".
Customer Review: 'I Ran Away' is the sole reason to buy this
The Scientist is a very good song, I agree, but the best track on this disc and out of all of Coldplay's work has to be I Ran Away. The song is just so awesome. The guitar takes you to another place, the percussion is excellent, and the lyrics go perfectly with the song. If you like Coldplay, you must get ahold of this song as soon as possible.
Customer Review: Top notch song.
Now, I don't normally like British people. Their accent annoys me, but Coldplay are very cool British people. This song rules. The video kind of makes me think, how did he do that? But, the song is a great song.

I took my bike during 2007 Rainbow Festival in Malm, Sweden, to go to an evening of queer poetry with Jan Hammarlund. Jan is the first openly gay artist who was played in Swedish radio in the 70s, that way he himself is a part of our LGBT heritage. The program read: 2000 years of queer poetry round the Mediterranean sea. Sappho, Catullus, Kavafi. In some way I could feel it was interconnected with my own recital, performed the day before - Music from the closet.

Classical music and the composers/ poets/ artists/ mathematicians etc and so on, imprisoned in the closet by others. I felt relaxed after the successful performance and ready to fill up with new inspiration. I did get inspired but in ways I had not thought about. It hit me, with a force, that what we had both done with our programs was to point the finger at something we seldom talk about. Our history. Our unfathomably rich history. I say unfathomably as we are not talking about little side tracks or behind the scenes people here!

Three of the most well known pictures in the world are made by the same artist. Every body knows his name. Few dare to say he was gay. By not telling things the way they are, by pushing the most important icons of the western world into the closet century after century, by distortion and lies and silence all of us whom belong amongst the LGBT crowd are forced to live within a false lack of historic perspectives. This in spite o the fact that we really do have a very rich heritage to get inspired by. Instead the focus is put on hate crimes, aids and HIV. This way we can be referred to as victims, poor them and the majority can place themselves on a slightly higher level. I mean, really, who wants to admire and get inspired by a dyke? Nadia Boulanger, Michelangelo, Joan of Arc, Leonardo da Vinci, Aaron Copland, Handel, Schubert and Sappho how human where they? Human enough to be counted amongst those contributing to the development of our society and proud western heritage? Apparently. But would they be allowed to get married - today?

Would Rumi survive in Iran these days? Probably not... So I am asking myself: Who is supposed to be able to take part of the human rights and the heritage of humanity? Which ones are a little more human, a little more important than others? Which ones are less important? Who decides? And not least I ask my self: What of immeasurable value has been created by LGBT people? No one of "those deciding" would really dispute that Leonardo da Vinci is very important to this day. But was he human? Was he human enough to take part of the same rights that heterosexuals have? I think we can say no to that. He was not. Not then and not now!

What I and Jan did during the Rainbow Festival here in Sweden, was to actively lift some of the most important cultural icons out of the closet. Some giants of which western society is constantly in debt. We use our professions to dare say what is constantly hidden from us. Things like: Apparently Leonardo da Vinci was gay! You see, when I hear Jan Hammarlund read Catullus addressing another man, so erotic it bites the skin, I have to laugh out loud. Laugh because I blush, because it is such high standards and because he was one of us. Sappho, Catullus and Kavafi are all part of our honorable LGBT past. We have to understand that if "we" do not say that out loud "they" will not say it for us. More queer poems to the people! Not bad, eh?

Rough Guide to World Music Volume Two: Latin and North America, the Caribbean, Asia & the Pacific (Rough Guide Music Guides)

Customer Review: Extraordinary: Overwhelmingly Wonderful
The research here is remarkable. The scholarship is first-rate, the information exhaustive (although never definitive since world music grows with leaps and bounds moment by moment). I love dipping into this attractively illustrated, logically organized, and utterly helpful guide to find whole realms of sound which I not only didn't know existed but also could not even have imagined existed without the help of these fine fans of the music about which they write so clearly and well. The world today is a depressing place. Sorrow is everywhere one turns. But this celebration of music continually energizes and revivifies. Buy it; enjoy it; and expand your CD collection.
Customer Review: Everything V. 1 was for Middle-East, African, & European ...
... this one is for Latin & North American, Caribbean, Indian, Asian/Pacific idioms. I picked up the original '94 edition to explore World Beat rhythms in improvisatory settings, and was excited to hear the new edition would cover two volumes. I am NOT displeased !!

Little boys always love a Star War birthday party. Running around and fighting with their lightsabers is all they need to enjoy themselves but you can also devise games and decorate your party to make it really special.

With some tin foil and card you can create a whole galaxy for their imaginations to run wild in and you could create a party your little boys friends will never forget.

Take a look at these ideas

Party Essentials

If you are throwing a party there are a few essentials you always need like plates, cups, goody bags, napkins, invitations and balloons. You can of course pick these up from most supermarkets but if you want to make your Star War party one to remember why not use themed essentials.

You can pick up all your Star War essentials plus streamers, ribbons, table clothes and cutlery all in the Star War theme

Dressing Up

There are loads of star war birthday party costumes your little boy or girl could dress up in from Darth Vader to, Princess Leia, Anakin and Yoda. Dressing up is one of the most fun parts of a Star War Party. You could ask everyone to dress as someone different because there are so many good characters.

Games

Good verses Evil

You could devise a competition for your Star War birthday party between good and evil comprising questions and activities.

Split your guests into two groups (those dressed as goodies and those dressed as baddies). You can have several rounds to this competition as follows:

Question Round

You ask questions and the first team to shout out the correct answer gets a point. You could ask star wars trivia or space questions like what is the nearest planet to the sun? to keep the game in theme with your party

Group Round

This is a little like a treasure hunt. First of all cut out ten pictures of Star Wars characters (goodies not baddies) and stick them onto circles of card. These can be different sizes but should be no smaller than the circumference of a mug. Place these around your garden or house in view but not in obvious places.

Explain to your guests that ten members of the Alliance (Star Wars Goodies) have gone missing. The goodies need to find them before they are captured by the baddies. The two groups must go out and find as many of the missing as they can and they get one point for each one they bring back.

Fight to the Death

This round is the same as musical bumps but you explain that it is a fight, good against evil and the last man standing gets 10 points for his or her team.

Your guests dance around and when the music stops they must sit down as quickly as they can. The last person to sit down is out of the game. The winner gets ten points and their team wins the competition.

The judges ranking and their score for the OD are in parentheses.

1) Belbin/Agosto (2, 67.54) It is quite ironic that after spending all season complaining bout how much I dislike this program that I am ranking it first at worlds. But I feel they were the clear winners of the OD. They attacked this program and nailed everything. I got a good laugh at the British Eurosport's commentators trying to find something about this performance to criticize and coming up with 'Their arms weren't always in perfect unison,' because if that is the biggest problem with any program, it was obviously skated fabulously. The Charleston and quickstep were arguably the best of the night, and their foxtrot was almost up to the level it was four seasons ago. The choreography still is not very good, but their performance overcame that and made you forget about the it.

2) Navka/Kostomarov (1, 68.67) This is by no means a bad program, but it is also not a great program. Both the quickstep and foxtrot were done well, but not amazingly so. Still, the transitions are 1000% better than they were a season ago, making this actually looks somewhat like a dance program, instead of a pairs program with dance elements. And how can one not give them points for their extremely original musical selection of "Sing Sing Sing"? But as neither the difficulty level nor the interpretation was up to the level of Belbin/Agosto's, they deserved to place second.

3) Chait/Sakhnovski (5, 61.19) After placing 3rd at the GPF in the OD, I was crossing my fingers that their placement would be the same here. Unfortunately, the judges failed me. They, unlike the teams directly below them, had great interpretation of the rhythms and skated without any mistakes. And their energy level, as always, was ridiculously high. Plus, their skating skills, while not quite as good as the skating skills of the very best in the world, have improved so much that they should challenge those other teams.

4) Denkova/Staviski (4, 62.79) Awkward OD interpretation, but thy did skate all out. Their skating skills - and the fact that they too did not mess up, held them above the other teams here. Still, this OD is very forgettable.

5) Delobel/Schoenfelder (6, 60.25) Had Isabelle not made a small mistake on the sbs footwork sequence, they would have been challenging the top teams. Unfortunately, she did. Isabelle has nice interpretation, and even Olivier seems less lifeless than usual. Plus, the choreography is superb. The only other problem is that they are slightly off-beat for part of the foxtrot.

6) Grushina/Goncharov (3, 63.17) This program has many of they same weaknesses as B/A's does, which should not be a surprise, considering it is basically the same program. (Morozov's creativity or lack there of has sunk to a new low for "his" programs for G/G this season.) But unfortunately for them, they do not have B/A's technical strengths and charisma. Elena is lovely as always; Ruslan is dull as always. And I'm still waiting for them to finish their sbs footwork. Somebody needs to go out and push them during any footwork sequence.

7) Domnina/Shabalin (7, 58.86) These two probably had the best foxtrot interpretation of the season. It was graceful, musical, and truly brought the classical foxtrot to the ice. They even made their dance spin seem foxtrot-y. The sbs footwork didn't seem very powerful, and their twizzles, while miles better than many of the other team's, were a bit shaky. The quickstep was okay.

8) Dubreuil/Lauzon (8,58.30) Argh. The foxtrot and quickstep sections were extremely well-interpreted and the whole dance was extremely cohesive for a combination OD. But the sbs footwork was a complete and utter disaster. It got messed up about 1/3 of the way through, and they never quite got it back on track. There was a little to much of time spent not touching each other. And their Charleston was a bit awkward in places. Plus, why are they miming holding umbrellas? Isn't the whole point of "Singin' in the Rain" that one is singing in the rain, and not covered by umbrellas?

9) Faiella/Scali (9, 56.13) Their stroking has improved dramatically. Their twizzles still aren't very good. And they didn't really seem to truly get either rhythm, especially the quickstep. But technically, it was a strong program, and they had good energy as always,

10) Wing/Lowe (10, 52.52) They start off with a nice, although slightly dull, foxtrot. And then they transition into a nice, but slightly dull Charleston. I normally really like this team, but this performance seemed to lack energy. They don't have the technical content of the teams above them.

11) Fraser/Lukanin (13, 48.82) Their speed and polished has dramatically improved. Very nice foxtrot expression. They spend a little too much time apart. They had nice musicality too.

12) Kerr/Kerr (11, 50.71) There's still a fairly sizable gap between her skills and his, although he has improved. They have nice foxtrot expression. Theirs twizzles in the sbs footwork was very messy towards the end. Their quickstep was fine, but not quite as good as the foxtrot.

13) Gregory/Petukhov (12, 50.22) I got the advice to only watch him, not her, and I enjoyed them much more than usual. Interpret that as you want. Of course, then I missed the mistake she made on the twizzles during the sbs footwork, which also lacked flow. Decent Charleston expression. Too much stroking in foxtrot section.

14) Kulikova/Novikov (14, 48.72) She did best with the quickstep, while he shone in the foxtrot. Second quickstep had very little traditional quickstep character. They had a slightly messy quality overall.

I did not rank the rest of the teams.

Hoffman/Elek (17, 45.34) They start with a foxtrot, which was absolutely lovely and really captured the rhythm. The quickstep was very good too, but did not quite work as well as the foxtrot. And somebody needs to teach Atilla to twizzle, because I'm sick of him messing those up, as he did on the sbs footwork. And then he had trouble lifting Nora on the final lift, although a portion of that can probably be blamed on her 472346 pound dress. But overall, this was a very nice OD.

Gudina/Beletski (18, 42.85) They start off with an enthusiastic Charleston. But the foxtrot was dull, with little difficulty. And unfortunately they could not pick up the energy level with the final quickstep section, to Dancing Fool of all songs.

Watanabe/Kido (15, 46.57) A very good and in-character quickstep. Diagonal footwork could flow better. Their foxtrot was good, but not quite as in character as the quickstep. He has some trouble with the last lift.

Grebenkina/Azronjan (16, 46.02) Great energy, and their movements are very dance-y and fit the quickstep well. Their foxtrot is to extremely odd music - just a rhythm and no melody. But they end with another well-done quickstep section.

Beier/Beier (20, 41.66) Very cute and charming, with a good ballroom interpretation of the rhythms.

Kauc/Zych (22, 40.92) Fabulous foxtrot expression. Twizzles during sbs footwork were messy. Basic skating is very good. This program lacked the falls that their programs usually have, but it also lacked the energy and attack. Their quickstep expression is also very nice.

Pechalat/Bourzat (23, 40.71) They start with a very charming and well characterized Charleston. But she takes a bad fall during the sbs footwork. Their musicality in the foxtrot was good, but the choreography wasn't very ballroom. They fixed that during a great quickstep section.

Yang/Gao (19, 42.67) Decent foxtrot. She hits a lovely position during the lift. She's very charming. Charleston is nice too. He looks to have trouble rotating the final lift.

Golovina/Voika (21, 41.57) They start with movements that seem to exaggerated for the more subtle foxtrot rhythm. But they still have good musicality and energy. Decent quickstep, but again the movements don't fit the rhythm very well.

Munana/Munana (25, 36.31) As sick as I am of Chicago ODs, this one was great. Both rhythms, especially the Charleston, were interpreted fabulously. Both skaters sparkled. They clearly do not have the technical ability of the top teams, but if they can ad technical content in the future, they most definitely will be contenders.

Akimova/Shakalov (29, 31.35) Very polished, but little else going for them. He tripped on the sbs footwork. Diagonal footwork is . Their musicality is pretty good.

Aureli/Vaturi (24, 38.66) They start off with a lot of dancing in place. They have somewhat poor ice coverage on the sbs steps. But they have a good understanding of both the quickstep and foxtrot. Unfortunately, they really lack in technical content.

Haunstetter/Hoenlein (27. 33.00) Chicago. Again. But they have a very good Charleston, and his foot position during the lift was fabulous. Ugly and out-of-sync twizzles. The rest of the sbs wasn't much better. They looked like they were skating two different programs during the sbs steps. He is terrific.

Buck/Nelson-Bond (28, 32.85) Good Charleston expression. Pretty good speed through diagonal footwork. She hits great positions in their lifts. Their weakness seems to be basic skating. They also had unison trouble on the sbs footwork.

Keller/Keller (26, 33.23) Really weird Charleston music. Decent musicality. Their program is very empty. They also lacked energy. Their quickstep expression was the best of the three rhythms.

Galcheniuk/Krupen (30, 28.14) Most of their skating is decent. Their programs aren't empty, and their musical interpretation is okay. Plus, they have nice energy. Unfortunately, nothing about their skating is anything better than decent, especially their basic skating.

Don't Panic

Many people go through the motions during Christmas. If not
the whole holiday season just parts. I see them slumped in
line, not a smile to be found, their body stiff, just
counting the number of people ahead of them, and time. Gift
giving or even receiving is right, wrong, good, bad, or
considered a waste. The control of it all, tightens the
body, encompasses the soul, and buries the magic. Where is
the release or where do we begin? It starts mindfully with
a choice, movement in the body, and a change of spirit.
Resolve to release the stress of it all, the need for
control, the right, or the wrong. Stand tall, smile, talk
to your neighbor, give them the acknowledgment just like you
want and deserve whether its one minute or more.

1. Lower back release. Stand facing a wall. Palms flat
against the wall, arms stretched, body angled straight, bend
one knee, and place it closer to the wall. Bend gentle
towards the wall. Close your eyes and see the tension in
your back. Envision it as a light. Mindfully move that
light down your legs out into the floor. If the light
prefers, let it travel through the arms into the wall. It
doesn't matter, just that it goes. What is so nice about
this release is there is usually a wall available anywhere
you go or you can use this release in the shower at home.

2. Breathing exercises cleanse. Lay down, a bed or couch
work well, talk through a speech, or just talk aloud. At
the same time breathe deeply, watch your stomach rise and
fall, the same way a babys does when lying on their back
asleep. This will help you find your authentic voice; it
will probably sound different than ever before. Listen to
that voice, remember it well, use it often and what the
change in people who are listening.

3. Cheek, not facial, squeezing and release can be done
sitting in your office chair or while you are driving.
Squeeze, release, squeeze, release. Alternatively, play
each cheek to the beat of a song. Squeeze first the right,
then the left, and then the right again. Buttock dancing
is a great release for the back and shoulders. Its okay to
laugh through this because it then fades into number 4
below.

4. Laughter. Rent some funny movies or create your own
laughter. Try this: sit, feet firmly on the ground, bend
forward with elbows on your knees. Take a deep breath and
let out a big laugh. A hearty one, the kind from the
stomach, the kind you try to hide. Repeat until you feel
that the body releases the stress. It usually doesn't take
but two or three times. If you are a speaker, do this
before entering the room.

5. Do something wild. Streak across your room; sway naked
in the moonlight, or dance to wild music with your spouse.
Let the hair down, let go of control. When was the last
time you were not in control, the time you left all
inhabitations go, you went with your own personal flow? If
you are a writer, write wildly as if no censorship, no
rules. Use wild, daring words, don't ask what they mean or
spell like they sound. Release the wildness everyday, it
keeps the diseases at bay, its better than an apple a day.
If a runner, fling your arms wildly around, as if going
wild. Because actually, you am. Make ugly faces. Stand up
in front of your computer screen, dance and sway to
imaginary music if none is around. Howl at the moon and
even share it with friends. Bring some drums and strum.

6. Sounds. Let out a "yippee" or a big "yes" loud or soft,
in a car by yourself, or in your cubby hole at your desk
when you have completed something or did something well.
Let out a "You go, Girl" cry with a powerful arm thrust.
Open your mouth wide and verbally say the vowels, "aa, ee,
ii, oo, uu." (This is my favorite release before and after
a speech, it loosens the throat.) Yawn with sounds and
stretch with the yawn. Burp with oops and pride instead of
apology and shame. Its only a body movement nothing more.
When someone else does it, respond well, with jest rather
than a disapproving glare.

7. All choked up. Our throat harbors our unspoken dreams
and uncried tears caused from stress, of trying to be in
control. Use a pillow to muffle, or find a field where no
one can hear, yell and shout, but don't shriek, from the
depth of your belly. This sends any blocked energy from the
throat away. Your voice, even your body, may feel drained
as the toxins held inside get released, especially if you
keep it up for 10 or 15 minutes (your goal). Try this a day
before a speech to lower your pitch and relax your throat.
You will see a new sense of commanding power with a new
authentic voice in your writing or in your speaking.

These are seven various ways to let go of stress in your
body, open up your writing, improve your presentation
quality, or return your self-confidence and personal power.
Its easy to forget we need to let go, become wild into
order to take back our own control. Control of our health
and not take it for granted. You can also use any one of
these in the shower. Singing in the shower is a healthy
release of stress, in tune or not. Health is the one thing
in life money can't buy.
